A fantasy sci-fi October 2026 calendar highlights the 6th, 8th, and 9th between a soldier, dragon, and glowing key.
The week beginning October 5, 2026 brings several distinct kinds of gaming releases: an expansion, a collection, new platform editions, and the general launch of a major Xbox and Windows title. Dragon’s Dogma II: Dark Arisen arrives October 9, while Kingdom Hearts Collection [I ~ III] follows on October 8 and Gears of War: E-Day launches October 6. Those dates are supported by Capcom, Square Enix’s announcement as reported by Gematsu, and Xbox’s official listing, respectively.

For PC and Xbox readers, the useful distinction is not simply what is “new.” It is whether a release adds content to something already owned, brings existing games to another platform, or opens access beyond an early-access edition. Here is how those differences shake out.

Dragon’s Dogma: expansion versus complete package

Capcom confirms that Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen is scheduled for October 9, 2026, across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. The company describes new story content for Dragon’s Dogma 2, whose original release was in March 2024. It also explicitly says the Switch 2 package combines the main game and expansion.

Gematsu’s earlier announcement report supplies an important purchasing distinction: the complete release includes the base game and expansion, while existing PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC owners can obtain the expansion separately as downloadable content. PC availability is through Steam.

Practical takeaway: if you already own the original game, compare the expansion listing with the complete package before buying. A familiar title wearing a new subtitle does not automatically mean you need to purchase the base game again.

Capcom says development incorporates player feedback, with greater accessibility and additional content among its goals. That is a statement of intent—not independent evidence of improved frame rates, resolved bugs, or a particular PC performance uplift. Those outcomes should not be assumed from the release announcement alone.

Kingdom Hearts: a collection, not a new numbered sequel

Square Enix announced Kingdom Hearts Collection [I ~ III] for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and Switch 2, with an October 8 launch. According to Gematsu’s announcement coverage, it bundles:

  • Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 ReMIX
  • Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue
  • Kingdom Hearts III + Re Mind

The three components will also be sold separately.

There is a Windows angle beyond the console bundle: the same announcement says the existing PC collections will become available through Microsoft Store, alongside their established Steam and Epic Games Store availability. The Switch version of HD 1.5 + 2.5 ReMIX also receives a native release. Neither development should be confused with the arrival of a new numbered sequel.

For existing owners, the sensible question is therefore “Which components do I already have?” rather than “How many Roman numerals fit in my library?”

Gears of War: E-Day: the access dates matter

Xbox’s official product page confirms October 6, 2026 as the general release date for Gears of War: E-Day, with Premium Edition early access having begun October 1. Platforms include Xbox Series X|S and PC through Microsoft Store and Steam. Day-one subscription access is specifically listed for Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass.

That explains why some players can already be playing while others still see a forthcoming launch. Early access and general availability are separate milestones, not contradictory release dates.

Xbox Wire adds a useful detail missing from a simple weekly calendar: the worldwide general launch is scheduled for October 6 at 8 a.m. Pacific, or 15:00 UTC. Pre-installation began September 29 on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, and Steam. Eligible players can therefore download ahead of the unlock rather than spend launch time watching a progress bar.

Xbox also lists Play Anywhere support with shared progression and achievements between Xbox and PC. Its product page specifies that two-player split-screen is console-only; Windows players should not infer local split-screen support from the broader co-op description.

Before downloading

For Windows and Xbox players, the clearest actionable item is E-Day: confirm your edition or eligible Game Pass plan, pre-install if available to your account, and distinguish the October 6 unlock from Premium early access. Xbox Wire establishes both the download window and the launch timing.

For the two headline RPG releases, ownership is the key check: Dark Arisen has a separate expansion path, while the Kingdom Hearts collection overlaps with individually available components. A little library housekeeping now can prevent an unnecessary duplicate purchase later.
