A caped hero flies through a magical sky realm, battling fiery monsters among floating islands.
A new free Steam demo for UNDEFEATED: Genesis is now available for Windows PCs, giving players an early hands-on look at Indie-us Games’ open-world superhero action RPG ahead of its planned 2027 release. PC Gamer highlighted the demo alongside the game’s trailer from PC Gaming Show Tokyo Direct, while Steam’s listing and SteamDB both show a separate demo app that is free to install.

The premise is deliberately direct: Albert “Al” Hartree is transported to the alien world of Voltissia and develops superpowers. Developer Indie-us Games and publisher Chorus Worldwide Games position the game around unrestricted aerial movement, combat against mutant creatures, and ability upgrades that expand both fighting and exploration.

What the PC demo actually offers

The Steam demo is a standalone download tied to the full UNDEFEATED: Genesis store page. SteamDB lists it as a Windows-supported demo with full controller support and gamepad preference, while Steam identifies the full game as single-player. The system requirements page is still incomplete, however: it confirms a 64-bit operating system and processor but does not yet specify a CPU, GPU, RAM target, or storage requirement.

That means the demo is useful as a compatibility check for a PC before the full game arrives. Players should not assume that current performance represents final release performance, especially because the developer has not published formal Windows hardware targets.

The footage and store description show several core powers:

  • Al can fly freely through the game world rather than relying on limited traversal routes.
  • His ranged attacks include eye beams and energy-projectile abilities.
  • He can create a defensive barrier while airborne.
  • Ground combat uses close-range combo attacks against larger mutant enemies.
  • New powers are intended to alter how players travel, explore, and fight.

The game’s feature set is closer to a third-person action RPG than a simple superhero sandbox. According to the Steam description, abilities are acquired over time, and those unlocks are meant to create more options in both combat and exploration.

Voltissia is the setting, not a licensed Superman game

The “Superman” comparison is shorthand for the power fantasy: flying at speed, firing energy attacks, and overpowering enemies. UNDEFEATED: Genesis is an original game with its own protagonist, setting, and creature designs rather than a DC-licensed title.

The developer’s official description says Voltissia’s civilization was destroyed by a mysterious explosion 500 years before the game’s events. Most life on the planet subsequently became mutated, leaving the surviving Enelf people under threat. Al arrives in that aftermath and joins their fight.

That setup gives the demo’s combat encounters a clearer context than the trailer alone: the hostile creatures are part of a world shaped by a past catastrophe, and the full game is expected to tie hero progression to helping the remaining inhabitants as well as defeating enemies.

A larger follow-up to the original UNDEFEATED

UNDEFEATED: Genesis follows the original UNDEFEATED, a free PC superhero game released on Steam in 2019. The earlier project was a smaller, city-based experience built around the appeal of controlling an invulnerable flying hero. The new game moves that formula to an alien planet, adds RPG-style ability development, and expands the action into exploration across a larger setting.

For Windows players, the important distinction is that this is not the finished game arriving early. It is a limited demo intended to demonstrate the central loop of flight, superpower combat, and movement around a section of Voltissia. SteamDB recorded the demo becoming available on September 20, 2026, and its current store status is free.

What to watch before release

Steam now lists UNDEFEATED: Genesis for release in 2027. Earlier this year, Indie-us Games said it had shifted the launch window from 2026 to early 2027 to give the PC and PlayStation 5 versions more development time. The main Steam page currently uses the broader “2027” date, so players should treat an exact launch day as unannounced.

The demo is the practical next step for anyone interested in the game’s central promise. It can answer whether its flight controls, controller support, and combat feel suit a particular PC setup, but it cannot yet establish final hardware requirements, final content scope, or the performance of the retail release.
