What One More Level announced
The developer confirmed dynamic 4K resolution and separate 30 FPS and 60 FPS modes on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. Both consoles target dynamic 4K in either mode. Quality Mode aims for 30 FPS and Performance Mode aims for 60 FPS.
| Console | Quality mode | Performance mode |
|---|---|---|
| PS5 | Dynamic 4K, 30 FPS target | Dynamic 4K, 60 FPS target |
| Xbox Series X | Dynamic 4K, 30 FPS target | Dynamic 4K, 60 FPS target |
| Xbox Series S | Not stated | 60 FPS confirmed, resolution not stated |
| PS5 Pro | Not itemized | Not itemized |
Targets, not guarantees
Every frame rate here is a target. German outlet XboxDynasty makes the same point: the developers speak explicitly of target frame rates, so a consistently stable 60 FPS is not guaranteed.
"Dynamic 4K" also means the internal resolution can change during play. The announcement gives no minimum resolution, scaling range or frame-time data. Until someone measures the shipped game, you can't say how often either console will hit its target in busy combat.
Xbox Series S: 60 FPS, but few details
The Series S news is the part most relevant to Xbox owners. The Series S is the less powerful console, yet Valor Mortis will support a 60 FPS Performance Mode on it. The announcement doesn't say what resolution it uses or whether a Quality Mode will also exist.
Don't assume the Series S gets dynamic 4K. The dynamic 4K figure was given for the base PS5 and Series X.
A retailer blog, LDShop, claims that on Xbox Series S the game runs at a dynamic 1080p to 1440p resolution. That is a third-party shop page. It doesn't match the developer details reported elsewhere, which say the Series S resolution hasn't been disclosed. Treat it as unconfirmed until One More Level says so.
The footage caveat
One More Level released extended gameplay captured on a base PS5 and a Series X. The studio said the footage was exported at 1080p because of capture hardware limitations, then uploaded to YouTube in 4K to improve video compression quality.
Two things follow from that:
- The video can't be used to judge the dynamic-4K output the consoles are meant to produce.
- The capture limit says nothing about the game's actual render resolution. It only describes how the video was made.
A 4K label on YouTube doesn't add detail that a 1080p capture never had. It only gives the video a better compression budget.
PS5 Pro
The PS5 Pro version will have higher resolution and improved visuals, but One More Level hasn't given specifics. There is no stated resolution, frame-rate target or feature list yet. For now it is a promise of "better" without numbers.
Launch and subscriptions
The game launches on October 13, 2026, for PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. It will be available on Xbox Game Pass on launch day, and a PlayStation Plus trial is planned. Xbox Wire's Game Pass roundup agrees on the day-one date. It lists Valor Mortis for cloud, Xbox Series X|S, handheld and PC on October 13 through Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass. The Xbox store listing credits One More Level as developer and Lyrical Games as publisher. It also marks the game as optimized for Xbox Series X|S.
The PlayStation Plus trial comes only from the TwistedVoxel report. I found no official terms for its length or tier eligibility, so treat it as planned, not live.
Which mode to pick
Valor Mortis is a first-person action soulslike built around parries, dashes and finishers. The developers' own description lists those mechanics, and timing matters in that kind of combat. Playfront makes a similar argument: in a fast-paced first-person soulslike, fractions of a second can decide life or death. That is commentary, not a test result, but it matches the usual advice for action games.
My read, based on general console-gaming experience rather than anything the developer said:
- Series X or PS5 owners who value responsiveness: start with Performance Mode and see whether the resolution drops are noticeable.
- Players who prefer the sharper preset: try the 30 FPS Quality Mode. The developer hasn't said what else it changes beyond the lower frame-rate target.
- Series S owners: a 60 FPS option exists, but the resolution and visual trade-offs are unknown.
What to watch for
Three questions stay open until launch:
- What resolution does the Series S Performance Mode run at, and is there a Quality Mode?
- What exactly does the PS5 Pro version improve?
- How well do the 60 FPS targets hold in real play? Independent testing after launch, and any day-one patch, will answer that.
Until then, the confirmed facts are a pair of dynamic 4K modes on PS5 and Series X, a 60 FPS option on Series S, and a Game Pass day-one release on October 13.
