What changed on November 6
Activision says the start of Season 1 marks the launch of Call of Duty: Warzone on Nintendo Switch 2. The same blog carries a blunt note: starting with Season 1, Warzone will no longer be playable on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One as the game, and Modern Warfare 4, move on from older-generation hardware.
Timing matters if you play across time zones. Activision lists the Season 1 launch for midnight Eastern on November 6, which is 9 p.m. Pacific on November 5. Season 1 is also the point where Warzone is fully integrated with Modern Warfare 4.
Getting Warzone on Switch 2
Nintendo Life reported that Warzone is free to play and Warzone was removed from PS4 and Xbox One digital storefronts and could no longer be downloaded. Content bought with local currency, including COD Points, was removed from the in-game store and menus. The Battle Pass could no longer be bought with COD Points, but the free tiers stayed available.
2. June 25: The in-game store was removed on those consoles.
3. Season 1: Warzone stopped being playable on PS4 and Xbox One. Until then, an owned copy could still be installed and played through the end of Black Ops 7 Season 06.
Keeping your progress and purchases
Progress and COD Points purchases carry over, but not everything does:
- You must sign in with the same linked Activision account on a supported platform. Your full progression and content bought with COD Points carry over to any supported platform.
- Some content, including COD Points themselves, only carries over within the same console family. For an Xbox One player, the documented route is a current-generation Xbox, not any platform.
- Unspent COD Points are tied to the platform account. They can be redeemed on a current-generation console in the same family using the same account.
- Most content bought with local currency follows the same family rule.
- The change applies only to Warzone. All other Call of Duty titles originally released on PS4 and Xbox One stay playable.
Player level still resets for everyone at the start of the season, whether or not you change platforms.
Analysis
This is a familiar pattern. A live-service game drops older hardware once an engine upgrade makes supporting it too costly. Activision gave roughly five months' notice, with storefront removal first and the playability cutoff last. That's fair warning, but it still means an Xbox One owner who wants Warzone now needs a console upgrade or a PC. The documented carry-over rules mean the account link is the one thing worth checking today.
Switch 2 owners get a large free download and no official performance numbers. A 122 GB footprint on a handheld is a real commitment, so the lack of published specs is worth noting before you clear the space.
