WIKO has added an AMD option to its Hi MateBook D 14 thin-and-light laptop. On paper, it's a better deal than the Intel model it sits beside. The Hi MateBook D 14 Ryzen Edition went on sale in China on October 8. Chinese outlet IT之家 (IT Home) reports that WIKO priced it at 5,799 yuan with an AMD Ryzen 7 H255 processor, 16GB of memory and a 512GB SSD. Gizmochina converts that to about $864, though that's a currency conversion, not a US price. For now this is a China-only launch.

Gizmochina and GIZGUIDE are both reporting the same launch. The Ryzen Edition is an AMD-powered alternative to its existing Intel models in the D 14 range. Russia's MegaObzor and several Indonesian outlets also covered it, and they all report the same price and core configuration.

Reported specifications:

ComponentHi MateBook D 14 Ryzen Edition
CPUAMD Ryzen 7 H 255, 8 cores / 16 threads, up to 4.9GHz
GraphicsIntegrated Radeon 780M
Memory / storage16GB RAM / 512GB SSD
Display14-inch, 16:10, 300 nits, 100% sRGB, 3.5mm bezels
ChassisAluminum unibody, 1.39kg, 15.9mm
Battery56Wh, rated up to 17.5 hours local video playback
Charger65W, included
OSWindows 11 Home (per GIZGUIDE)
China price5,799 yuan

GIZGUIDE's spec list also gives the panel as a 14-inch IPS display with 1920 × 1200 resolution, and says the laptop runs on Windows 11 Home Operating System.

Summary: This is a mainstream 14-inch Windows 11 laptop with a modern AMD chip, 16GB of RAM and a 1.39kg aluminum body, at a mid-range price in China.

The performance claim and where it comes from

WIKO's main pitch is a comparison with its own Intel model. Gizmochina says that according to Wiko's internal testing, this AMD setup yields roughly 50% higher multi-core performance and double the graphical performance compared to the Intel Core 5 210H version of the same laptop.

IT Home gives the exact figures from WIKO's announcement. Compared with the Core 5 210H version, the Ryzen model shows multi-core performance gains of over 49.6% and GPU performance gains of over 101%. So "roughly 50%" and "double" are rounded versions of the manufacturer's own numbers.

They are still manufacturer numbers. Spain's Hardware Premium notes that the graphics doubling comes from the brand and that these are its own figures without independent verification. WIKO hasn't said which benchmarks it used, and we found no independent reviews yet. Treat the claim as plausible but unproven.

Why it's plausible (industry context): the Ryzen 7 H 255 is a Zen 4-based part from AMD's Ryzen 200 family. The Radeon 780M is one of the stronger integrated GPUs in the x86 Windows market. Against an entry Intel Core 200H-series chip, a big jump in multithreaded and GPU work is expected. Light gaming, photo editing and lots of browser tabs should run better. Single-threaded tasks like ordinary Office work will probably show a much smaller gap.

There's a caveat. Cooling is handled by a single low-profile fan. In a 15.9mm chassis, sustained performance depends heavily on how hard the firmware lets the chip run. Short benchmark runs and a 45-minute render can give very different results.

Summary: WIKO claims about 50% more multi-core and 2x GPU performance over its own Intel model. The chip makes that believable, but no independent tests confirm it yet.

Ports, battery and that 270-meter Wi-Fi claim

The ports are practical but mixed. There's one full-function USB-C port for charging and display output, one USB-A 3.2 Gen 1 port, a legacy USB 2.0 port, an HDMI connection, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. No one has published the USB-C data rate, the HDMI version or how many external displays it supports. If you plan a dual-monitor desk setup, confirm those before buying.

The only USB-C port is also the charging port. With the included 65W charger plugged in, your one fast modern port is in use. A USB-C dock or a monitor that charges over USB-C (Power Delivery) gets around that, if the laptop's USB-C supports those features. That hasn't been confirmed either.

On battery, the laptop has a 56Wh battery, which Wiko rates for up to 17.5 hours of local video playback. Local video playback is about the easiest test a laptop can run, so don't expect anything like that in a mixed workday of Teams calls, browsers and syncing.

The Wi-Fi claim is unusual. WIKO says a custom antenna design can maintain a connection at distances of up to 270 meters. Gizmochina adds that real-world range will naturally depend on physical obstructions and network interference. In an apartment, walls and neighbors' networks will limit range long before 270 meters does. Better antennas can still help with signal stability in large homes or offices, though.

Summary: The ports are usable but thin on detail. The battery and wireless numbers are best-case figures.

Extras: keyboard, fingerprint reader and phone integration

Chinese gaming and tech site 17173 reports some extra details from WIKO's announcement. The keyboard has 1.5mm key travel, keycaps with a soft-landing cushioning material, and has passed a 5-million-keystroke durability test. There's also a fingerprint reader built into the power button. The display reportedly has a 90% screen-to-body ratio.

The same report says the laptop supports multi-screen collaboration with phones, tablets and earbuds. Phone collaboration can open up to 3 phone app windows, and a tablet can mirror the laptop's screen and work as a pen-input drawing pad.

Those cross-device features say a lot about who this laptop is for. WIKO's Hi-branded products in China sit in an ecosystem built around Huawei-style devices, and the MateBook name points the same way. The phone and tablet features are likely tied to that ecosystem in China. If you're not using compatible devices, expect a normal Windows 11 Home laptop and count those features as a bonus at most.

Don't confuse it with the other Ryzen WIKO

Some recent coverage describes a WIKO "Hi MateBook 14 Ryzen Edition" with round keycaps and a body weighing only 1.32kg and with a thickness of 14.5mm. That uses the same Ryzen 7 H 255 and Radeon 780M combination, but its weight and thickness don't match the D 14 Ryzen Edition's 1.39kg and 15.9mm. These look like separate models. Check the "D" when comparing listings.

Should Windows buyers care?

For most WindowsForum readers outside China, the answer is "watch, don't buy yet." GIZGUIDE notes that it is paired with a 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD. It also says the laptop is only on sale in China and that it's unclear whether it will reach other markets. Importing it would add taxes, shipping and warranty problems, and the keyboard layout and Windows language setup may not suit you.

Here's what's still unconfirmed:

  • RAM type and upgradeability. If the 16GB is soldered, you're stuck with it.
  • SSD slot details. It's unclear whether the drive is a standard M.2 that you can swap.
  • Display refresh rate. 60Hz is likely at this price, but WIKO hasn't said.
  • USB-C specifics. No data rate or Power Delivery details have been published.
  • Sustained thermals. It's unknown how the single fan handles long workloads.

What's genuinely interesting is the price. A Zen 4 Ryzen 7 with Radeon 780M, 16GB of RAM, an aluminum chassis and a 16:10 sRGB panel for 5,799 yuan is competitive. If WIKO's numbers hold up, its own Intel model looks like the weaker buy. WIKO is effectively telling buyers that the AMD version is the better pick, which is a strange way to market one of your own laptops.

If independent reviews confirm the performance and battery claims, this could be one of the better-value 14-inch Windows 11 laptops in its market. For now, the evidence is the spec sheet and WIKO's own testing.
