Xbox Insiders find a Microsoft Rewards streak counter on the dashboard and profile
Pure Xbox reports that a new Microsoft Rewards tracker has been added to both the Xbox dashboard and your Xbox profile. According to the outlet, the idea is to help you keep track of your daily streaks and Xbox Game Pass Weekly Streak so you don't miss a day by accident, although we've already seen some confusion about it online.
The first public sighting came from Stallion83, the well-known achievement hunter, who posted on September 24 that Xbox Rewards daily streaks are now displayed on your profile and dashboard for Insiders. He also added: "Feels a little overkill, honestly." That is one user's observation and opinion. It is not a Microsoft feature description.
Other outlets have seen the same thing. Windows Report says some Xbox Insiders have also spotted a new streak counter on their player profiles. TrueAchievements covered the same update and called the streak feature "mysterious," reporting it alongside achievements to game tiles on the Dashboard and more. So the counter itself is well corroborated. What it actually counts is less settled.
Microsoft hasn't confirmed the Rewards link
Pure Xbox and Stallion83 both treat the counter as a Rewards feature. Windows Report is more careful. It notes that Microsoft has not explained what the streak tracks or what players need to do to increase it. The outlet says the wording resembles Microsoft's existing Rewards streak system, raising the possibility that the new profile counter could connect to Microsoft Rewards, but that Microsoft has not confirmed any connection or explained which activities contribute to the streak.
That uncertainty probably accounts for some of the confusion Pure Xbox mentions. The Rewards reading is plausible. Microsoft Rewards already runs streak-based activities, and its own documentation mentions a Daily Set streak, noting that if you complete the Daily Set streak, you don't receive extra points on top of the daily set points you already earned. The same page gives an Outlook mobile example: if you check 3 emails a day on Outlook mobile, it counts towards your daily streak.
What nobody has published is how the new Xbox counter lines up with those rules. We don't know which activities keep it going, when it resets, or whether the Game Pass Weekly Streak shown there follows the rules found elsewhere in Rewards. Until Microsoft documents it, treat the counter as a display of your progress. It doesn't tell you how to earn points.
Rewards already has a home on Xbox
The counter doesn't create a new way to earn. Microsoft Rewards already has a dedicated space on the platform. Microsoft says members can track your progress for the next level by visiting Microsoft Rewards: Status or by visiting the Rewards with Xbox hub on console, PC, mobile, or handheld. There are eligibility limits: players 18 years and older in XBOX supported regions can also check their Microsoft Rewards points at the Rewards with XBOX hub. Microsoft also notes that ways to earn Microsoft Rewards points, and items to redeem for Microsoft Rewards points, vary by market.
What the test changes is where the information shows up. Streak status used to live inside a hub you had to open. Now it sits on the dashboard and on your public-facing profile. Our inference: the goal is to remind players about a streak before they break it, which fits Pure Xbox's "so you don't miss a day" description. Stallion83's "overkill" comment reflects the flip side. A profile is where players show off achievements, and some of them may not want a loyalty-program counter sitting there.
This fits a broader pattern of Xbox reworking the profile. In April, Microsoft said on Xbox Wire that select Xbox Insiders can begin testing improvements to Achievements that make it easier to celebrate your accomplishments and curate how they appear on your profile. That announcement also included the ability to hide games from your achievement history. The streak counter is a different kind of addition, though. It promotes engagement with a program instead of giving players more control over what their profile shows.
Xbox's quiet-testing policy means Insiders will see different builds
This counter showed up without release notes because Xbox has changed how it tests. Pure Xbox points to a note on the Xbox Insider subreddit in which Xbox confirmed it is experimenting across Insider tiers and that "not everything will be called out in release notes". As quoted by the outlet, the statement reads: "Some XBOX Insiders may notice changes to their experience over the coming months as we test and evaluate new features and experiences. These updates may vary by player, evolve over time, or not become permanent additions to XBOX."
Windows Report reaches the same conclusion from how the rollout looks. It says Microsoft has not officially detailed these dashboard changes, which suggests the company may still be testing them with a limited group of Xbox Insiders, and that Microsoft could modify or remove them before a wider rollout.
For Insiders, this means two people on the same ring may see different dashboards. The Xbox Insider Program is built around graduated access. Microsoft's support FAQ says members automatically become eligible to join more Insider content previews based on your interests, tenure as an XBOX Insider, XBOX Insider XP score, and activities you participate in. Add unannounced per-player experiments on top of that, and a missing streak counter tells you nothing about whether your console or account has a problem.
There is a downside. Undocumented changes are harder to report well. Without release notes, testers have to guess whether odd behavior is part of an experiment or a bug. The tile-tag and friends-count changes that arrived in the same wave make this harder, because they add several unexplained interface changes at once.
What this means for you
Nobody needs to do anything yet. The practical choice is whether to explore and give feedback if you're an Insider, or to wait for Microsoft to document the feature if you're not.
- If you're an Xbox Insider and see a streak counter on your profile or dashboard, you're in the test group. Report confusing behavior through Xbox Insider feedback channels, since that feedback is what the experiment is for.
- If you're an Insider and don't see the counter, nothing is wrong. Xbox says these experiences may differ from player to player.
- Don't change how you earn Rewards based on this counter. Microsoft hasn't said what it tracks or confirmed that it matches the Rewards Daily Set or Game Pass Weekly Streak rules.
- The Rewards with Xbox hub on console, the Xbox PC app and the Xbox mobile app is still the documented place to check points and progress. Earning options vary by market, and Rewards on Xbox requires players to be 18 or older in supported regions.
- No setting to hide or turn off the counter has been documented, so don't trust instructions that claim otherwise.
- Players outside the Insider program shouldn't expect this in a retail update on any particular date. Xbox has warned that tested features may never become permanent.
The streak counter tells you more about Microsoft's direction than about a finished feature. Rewards is moving out of its own hub and onto the most visible parts of the console interface, and Xbox is now testing changes like this with players before writing about them. If the counter reaches a documented Insider release or Xbox Wire post, Microsoft will have to answer the questions sightings can't: what counts toward a streak, whether it's tied to Rewards, and whether players can remove it from their profile.
