What Amazon is doing
IGN Southeast Asia reports that instead of first-come-first-served preorders, Amazon is letting anyone interested request an invite to buy the console. This follows the August preorder round. IGN says that round sold out almost instantly. Microsoft's own announcement only says preorders were available "while supplies last," so treat "almost instantly" as IGN's description.
Amazon's listing explains the reasoning. To make sure as many genuine customers as possible can buy this high-demand item, Amazon sells it by invitation. Invited customers get an email when the item is available. IGN quotes Amazon as saying not all requests will be granted.
This is the same invite system Amazon introduced in 2022. TechCrunch reported at the time that the aim was to prevent inventory shortages and price gouging caused by bot traffic on high-demand, limited-quantity items. It also noted that any customer with an Amazon account can request an invite, so Prime isn't required.
How to request an invite
- Open the console's product page on Amazon. It is titled as the Xbox Series X | X25 Special Edition Gaming Console.
- Find the Request invite button, which sits where "Add to cart" normally would.
- Submit the request and watch your email.
- If Amazon invites you, the email says the item is available. Complete the purchase promptly.
On the last step, I couldn't verify the purchase window for this console. During the 2022 PS5 and Xbox Series X rollout, invited customers had 72 hours to buy. Don't assume the same applies here. Read the terms in your invitation email.
What's in the box
The Xbox Wire announcement, by Jason Ronald, describes a console with a translucent OG Green exterior. Details from Microsoft, Amazon and IGN:
- Storage: 1TB, per IGN and the Amazon listing.
- Numbering: Microsoft says every console is individually numbered with a unique engraving.
- Controller: a matching X25 wireless controller is included. It is also sold separately.
- Game: a full-game download of Halo: Campaign Evolved, the remake of the original Halo campaign.
- Production run: Amazon's listing says only 25,000 numbered consoles are available for purchase. IGN gives the same figure. The Microsoft announcement I reviewed doesn't state a quantity.
The price discrepancy
IGN lists Amazon's price as $909.23. Microsoft's August announcement gives a U.S. MSRP of $899.99 for the collection and says pricing varies by market. The gap is $9.24. None of the sources I reviewed explain it.
Take two cautions from this:
- Don't assume $909.23 is Microsoft's price. It is IGN's report of Amazon's price.
- Check the final price on the live Amazon page before you commit, along with your region and delivery details.
I couldn't independently confirm the live request status, so what I've said about the request process comes from IGN and from Amazon's listing text.
Why it matters, and what to be wary of
With a numbered, limited run, resale markups are the usual aftermath. An invite system can reduce bot buying, though it can't make 25,000 consoles go further. Microsoft's own preorders were limited to one collection per customer. The practical advice is to request the invite, but not to build plans around it or pay a scalper because you didn't get one.
Treat any email about the console with suspicion. Real Amazon invitations come through your Amazon account. Check the order page there instead of clicking links in unexpected messages.
Bottom line
- Requesting an invite is free and gives you a chance, not a guarantee.
- The release date is November 13, 2026.
- Amazon's reported price is $909.23, against Microsoft's $899.99 MSRP.
- The 25,000-unit cap is backed by Amazon's listing and IGN, not by Microsoft's announcement.
