About this resource

What it does
Rufus creates bootable USB drives from ISO images for Windows installation, recovery, firmware, and other bootable utilities. It is designed to run portably on supported versions of Windows.

Before writing a drive
The selected USB device will be erased. Back up its contents, verify the drive letter and capacity, and use an ISO from the software publisher or another trusted source. Creating media does not provide a Windows license.

Choosing settings
Match the partition scheme and firmware settings to the target PC. If you are unsure whether a system boots in UEFI or legacy BIOS mode, check before writing the drive.

Original resource notes
Rufus is a small utility that helps format and create bootable USB flash drives, such as USB keys/pendrives, memory sticks, etc.

It can be especially useful for cases where:

  • you need to create USB installation media from bootable ISOs (Windows, Linux, UEFI, etc.)
  • you need to work on a system that doesn't have an OS installed
  • you need to flash a BIOS or other firmware from DOS
  • you want to run a low-level utility

Despite its small size, Rufus provides everything you need!
