Wow, was it that long ago! Guess what, it's back! I wish I knew how to prevent the occurence of this s.o.a.b!

    Network messages stuck above systray

So it could be something to do with the above script perhaps? It seems to have gone again, it's very temperamental. Thanks for your help but I think it's unsolvable. In the meantime another issue has arisen but I'd better make a new post really when I figure out where. Briefly: When I attempt to...

    Network messages stuck above systray

True... However, I certainly hope there is someone that knows because the f***ers back! 'Network Internet access' as in the first post of this thread. When I click on it, it won't go. I'm getting fed up of this now.

    Network messages stuck above systray

Thanks brkkab, you are a legend. ) I sometimes use autoruns, I should take more advantage of it due to all those features. I probably won't need all that sysinternals stuff although the blue screen screensaver could be useful lol. Strangely I don't have that block of wow64 stuff appear when I...

    Network messages stuck above systray

I don't actually have that entry in autoruns, what I do have though is an entry called rdpclip and it says 'Image path': File not found : rdpclip. There's also an entry highlighted in red for some reason: Microsoft\Windows\Nettrace\GatherNetworkInfo - Windows\System\gathernetworkinfo.vbs

    Network messages stuck above systray

Sorry for late reply and thanks, I have autoruns, I might use it again to have a look behind the scenes... It's happening again b.t.w. It won't disappear from the desktop, obviously this particular thing isn't something I can disable at startup as it's part of the network. It's annoying, it...

LAN Desktop Shortcut doesn't do anything first time its clicked, works second time, very odd!

I'm not doing another clean install, it would take months to put everything back how it should be. I've fixed the update problem apart from some that aren't recommended as they cause problems. The issue seems to have gone (it might be back) although there's now another one. Have a look here if...

    Network messages stuck above systray

This has been happening recently every time I boot up. Sometimes its "Not connected - No connections are available" or it can be "Network Internet access" when it is connected. It goes when I double click the network icon but that isn't really a solution as it shouldn't get stuck there in the...

    explorer.exe having an error

That's some error! Looks like you've been hacked by an Oriental Guy Fawkes! That said, I get an explorer.exe error sometimes and have to restart it via task manager, I don't know what causes it. My computer has seen better days.

LAN Desktop Shortcut doesn't do anything first time its clicked, works second time, very odd!

brkkab, yes I did actually have an unrecoverable BSOD at the start of the year, I fixed all that and installed well over a hundred updates, after a while I got fed up of trying to install updates that wouldn't install and turned updates off. I've run full virus/malware scans etc... I also got...

LAN Desktop Shortcut doesn't do anything first time its clicked, works second time, very odd!

Hi, it's started doing it again. the link, to be more specific, is a shortcut to local area connection in 'All Control Panel Items\Network Connections\Local Area Connection'. Why would the first instance of the double click or pressing Enter be ignored? Very odd. Another problem I'm having...

Thanks for reply, doesn't do it now, some kind of glitch. I ended up turning Windows update off, got fed up of it. Might try it again eventually.

    Problem in Windows Update

I can't believe Microsoft expects the average Windows 7 user to do all this: https://support.microsoft.com/en-sg/help/971058/how-do-i-reset-windows-update-components If they can make 157 updates then surely they can make another one to fix the last 9

    Windows Media Player not responding?

Slightly of the point but I remember a time when I had to download codec packs to make unplayable videos play, k-lite codec pack for example was one. Don't seem to need to do that these days, there may be some some circumstances where one needs to. I agree with kaos, VLC is the best media player...

Program exe stopped check online for solution.

Oh my! I missed that bit about 'format c'! That would most certainly fix the problem... as you'd have no computer to have a problem with! No, don't format c!. :ohno:

Windows 7 updates on network pc .

I'm quite sure it will only update the computer you are trying to update, although I keep getting the windows update has failed message when it trys to install 7 important updates and 2 optional ones. I recently recovered from a computer disater and had to re-install windows, there was something...

Program exe stopped check online for solution.

I wish I knew the answer but I'm far from an expert. I had a look on youtube and there are loads of videos which involve registry edits. I don't know if this one is any use, however, there are links to others.

LAN Desktop Shortcut doesn't do anything first time its clicked, works second time, very odd!

Here's an unusual problem that's occurred recently. On my desktop is a shortcut to Local Area Connection, when I click on it for the first time nothing happens but does on the second double click. More detail: Let's say I've booted the computer up for the first time in the day and I go to...

How can I stop facebook from asking me if I want to turn on notifications every time I log in.

Well, the link you provided led me in the right direction to solving the problem, it was down to permissions in Firefox. Thanks so much, You saved the day as far as FB is concerned. I was going to reply on the Mozilla forum post but it's archived. I'll see if there's another post perhaps and let...
