403 forbidden
About this tag
The 403 Forbidden error is an HTTP status code indicating that the server understood the request but refuses to authorize it. On WindowsForum.com, users have reported encountering this error when trying to access websites, connect to servers, or after installing Windows updates. Common scenarios include pointing a domain to a server IP and receiving a 403 error, Internet Explorer failing to open with a 403 error after updates, and DirectAccess connectivity issues producing HTTP 403 or error 0x80040001. Some users have noted that the error can be site-specific, affecting only certain websites while others work fine. Troubleshooting steps discussed include restoring the PC to an earlier date before updates and checking server permissions.
