cache pool
About this tag
Discussions tagged with 'cache pool' on WindowsForum.com focus on storage configuration for virtual machines, particularly in the context of Unraid or similar server setups. Users explore whether to assign a dedicated SSD as a cache pool device for storing a single vdisk file or to pass it through directly to a VM for optimal performance. Key considerations include avoiding cache pool usage for appdata or other services, and the feasibility of direct disk passthrough when the controller also handles array disks. The tag covers practical trade-offs between cache pool flexibility and raw performance for gaming VMs.
I've installed an extra 500GB SSD to my server that will only be used as the disc for a single VM; it won't be utilised for cache, appdata, or anything else.
Is it better to set it up as a cache pool device and use it to store only one vdisk file?
I'm hoping to receive the greatest possible...
