About this tag
The 'cannot find' tag on WindowsForum.com covers issues where Windows reports that a file or folder cannot be found, even though it appears to exist on the desktop or elsewhere. Common scenarios include being unable to delete, rename, or access items that are visibly present. Users often encounter error messages like 'Could not find this item' when trying to remove files. The tag includes discussions about permission problems and system-wide occurrences affecting multiple files. Troubleshooting steps typically involve checking permissions, using command-line tools, or adjusting system settings to resolve the discrepancy between visible files and the operating system's inability to locate them.

Windows 7 File/folder that is evidently on desktop cannot be found
Hi, as of a few days I get this phenomenon where a folder or file that I have placed on the desktop - say an installation file as in the example - cannot be deleted when I'm done with it, but rather I get 'Could not find this item...' as can be seen below: Link Removed the file just happens...- Commander_Cool
