About this tag
The tag 'clean format' on WindowsForum.com covers discussions about performing a clean installation of Windows to resolve system issues. Common themes include troubleshooting BSOD errors like IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL after a clean format, dealing with intermittent freezes and flashing icons on Dell laptops, and resolving hardware compatibility problems such as USB or driver failures post-format. Users often seek help with BSODs that occur after a clean install, suspecting faulty hardware or driver conflicts. The tag is used for both Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 clean install scenarios, with emphasis on diagnosing and fixing errors that persist after a fresh OS installation.

We recently built my friends computer. We started with Windows 8.1 and that was fine until the keyboard and mouse stopped working. We tried other USB ports, disabling the XHCI in BIOS, and other things but nothing worked. We decided to clean format and switch back to Windows 7.
