computer discovery

About this tag
Computer discovery in Windows networking refers to the ability of one PC to see other computers on the same local network. Common issues include Windows 7 machines failing to detect XP or Vista systems, or one PC seeing only a subset of network devices. Troubleshooting often involves adjusting advanced sharing settings, ensuring all computers are in the same workgroup, and verifying network discovery is enabled. In some cases, searching by IP address can reveal hidden machines, suggesting a name resolution problem. Printer sharing across different Windows versions may also require driver updates and proper sharing configuration.

My new windows 7 computer can't see most of the other computers on my network. Only the one running Vista is visible. It saw the network yesterday, but wont even prompt me for my password today. A profile application run on the new machine can see the network. Please advise.
