downclocking
About this tag
Downclocking refers to reducing a component's clock speed below its default or maximum rating, often to lower power consumption, heat output, and fan noise. On WindowsForum.com, discussions about downclocking frequently involve NVIDIA GPUs, particularly in multi-monitor or SLI setups. Users explore tools like NVIDIA Multi-Display Power Saver to force cards into idle states at very low frequencies, such as 51 MHz, and ask whether sustained downclocking is safe until 3D performance is needed. The tag covers practical questions about balancing power savings with system stability and hardware longevity.
Hi, I am using nvidia multi display power saver with SLI. With two monitors both cards are running at 51mhz and temps are good. Is this safe to force downclock all the time until I need the extra power/3D?
