error 10016

About this tag
Error 10016 is a DistributedCOM (DCOM) event logged in Windows Event Viewer. It indicates that the application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Activation or Local Launch permission for a COM Server application to a specific user or system account. Users on WindowsForum.com report this error in conjunction with unexpected PC restarts and crashes. The error message includes a CLSID and APPID, and suggests using the Component Services administrative tool to modify permissions. Troubleshooting often involves identifying the COM application associated with the CLSID and adjusting its security settings. While error 10016 is common, it does not always cause system instability, but some users find it linked to their crash issues.

Windows 7 What caused DistributedCOM Error

Event Viewer is reporting Error 10016 - application specific permission not granted to user S-1-5-18. I am logged on as an Administrator not a User. Why does EV think permission needs to be granted to a user not on the machine? S-1-5-18 is a generic SSID for a User? KC
