About this tag
{ "summary": "The error 1402 tag on WindowsForum.com covers issues where Windows setup or software installation fails due to registry key access problems. In the tagged threads, users encounter error 1402 when trying to install or reinstall Microsoft Office (2007, 2010) on Windows 7, often after running cleanup tools or switching from an older Windows version. The error message typically states that setup cannot open a specific registry key, sometimes under the UNKNOWN\Components path. Troubleshooting attempts include permission changes, removal tools, and registry edits, but the error persists. The tag also relates to broader Windows update and component store corruption, as seen in a thread about start menu and Cortana issues with DISM error 14098.", "meta_description": "Error 1402 occurs during Windows or Office install when setup cannot open a registry key.
