About this tag
The tag 'exclusive rights' on WindowsForum.com relates to audio behavior in Windows, particularly how applications handle sound when they lose focus. In discussions, users report that 3D games mute audio when out of focus, while 2D applications continue playing sound. The term appears in the context of Windows sound settings, where an 'exclusive rights' checkbox controls whether an application can take sole control of an audio device. Disabling this option is a common troubleshooting step to prevent audio from being cut off when switching between programs. The topic involves Windows audio models, differences between XP and Vista, and issues with onboard and PCI sound cards.
