f5 key
About this tag
The F5 key is commonly used to refresh views in Windows, such as File Explorer or the desktop. Users have reported issues where F5 triggers other functions, like opening a pane in Windows 10, instead of refreshing. In some cases, F5 is used for booting devices like the Surface Laptop, or for accessing the Gaiji IME pad in Japanese input. Problems with F5 keys not responding or requiring multiple presses to refresh both tree and details panes are also discussed. Troubleshooting tips include checking keyboard settings or hardware issues.
In former times in Windows 7 users can press F5 to refresh the current state of Windows Explorer.
When I try to do the same now in Windows 10 File Explorer then from the right side a pane appears instead.
How can I change the meaning of F5?
I would like to keep the F5-refresh association.

I have a new Surface Laptop and want to boot to a USB thumb. Unlike the Surface Pro, the laptop does not have a Volume button. It does use F5/F6, but neither work for booting. I know that I can select a custom startup from within Win 10 Pro, but want to go from power off to USB boot. Thanks.
Fixes an issue in which the Gaiji IME pad does not open in the Japanese IME in Windows 7 or in Windows Server 2008 R2. This issue occurs when you type "GAIJI" and then press F5.

The other part...
Last night, without any reason, my F4, F5, F6, and Esc keys stopped working. It solved itself, but shortly afterwords it did it again, and even after two reboots I cannot get them to work again. I use hotkeys all the time in Firefox and elsewhere, and these are probably my most-used keys...
Hello,
Have Win7 Ultimate X64. I've changed the desktop icons for the Recycle bin both empty and full.
The icon will not refresh without pushing F5
Any Ideas on how to make it automatic?
Thanks
