Which tools can recover fragmented files from a partially overwritten NTFS partition?
A friend of mine used a clone drive utility without knowing the implications. It looks like he selected the wrong target drive, and, more importantly, he did not unplug unused devices before using such a...
Hi, I’m having a problem accessing some of my files. I think it might started when I changed laptops and restored a backed up copy of all my files on to the new computer. The old one had a FAT 32 file system with Windows 2K, and I formatted the new one, which is running XP as NTFS. I’m mainly...

Hello all,
I want to use MpCmdRun.exe to schedule running MSE, but when I search for the program (Start > search box), it doesn't find the program, but the program is exactly where it is supposed to be: Program Files, Microsoft...etc. Further, if I go to the folder in which the program resides...

On my desktop computer I did a clean install of Windows 7 off the official MS Win 7 upgrade disc that I used to upgrade from XP. I did the many rounds of Windows Upgrades, etc. Then started to install only the programs I use and only from trusted sources. Everything was going smooth and just...
Hi to all.
I have found a file named 'Card_content.xml' in my Nokia Memory Card (Fat Volume). When I try to open it with Notepad, it shows 'Access Denied'. I can not open, rename, copy, move, delete this file. I can see the content of this file using 'DiskInternals Linux Reader'. The...
(I think) I accidently moved one folder into another. When I went into the folder to change it back, the folder did not contain the folder I thought I moved... So I did a global search of disk to locate to where it had been moved.
Sure enough, the search (gratefully) found the folder I was...
I had downloaded a file and when I was done with it I wanted to delete the folder, subdirectories, and files. I kept getting "Access Denied." Went into properties and under Security, the owner was not named and I could not change it by editing it. Everytime I tried to change the attrib read only...
I am trying to modify the attributes of a file (in this case the album title for a group of MP3 files in 1 folder).
All I want to do is change one character.
W7 (home premium 32bit) blanks out the whole box, and I have to type the all of the text again.
Very annoying!
XP it lets you...

Hi,
I encrypted the "C:\users\" directory in Windows 7 and then found that I had a problem logging in as another users. This is probably becuase it could not access the files within there as the other user was not allowed.
So I now know that I should have only encypted the folder in "users"...
Is there any way to access data entered into the Summary Tag under Windows XP, (for all files... not just pictures and music) in Windows Vista or Windows 7.
Windows XP allowed you to enter custom data for just about every file type.
For non "media" files the flowing default attributes are...
This is not my first rodeo for sure. Well with win7 I guess it is. Anyway, I can't seem to get rid of the the read only attrib on a directory. I remove it and apply and close the window but when I look at the properties again, the box is colored again. (not a check mark) Meaning something in the...
So I've been having some major issues with Windows Media Player. I wouldn't really mind, because the general library function works perfectly otherwise and it's perfect with foobar2000, but Windows 7 has a very nice integration with the Sonos music system (UPnP) which allows streaming over the...
