folder crash

About this tag
The folder crash tag on WindowsForum.com covers issues where opening a specific folder causes Windows Explorer to crash or become unresponsive. Common triggers include corrupted video files, problematic codec packs that generate thumbnails, or media files that fail to play properly. Users report that simply navigating to a folder containing such files can freeze or crash the file explorer, making it difficult to access or delete the problematic content. Troubleshooting steps often involve disabling thumbnail previews, removing recently installed codec packs, or using command-line tools to delete the offending files. These crashes are typically linked to media file handling in Windows 8.1 and Windows 7 systems.
