About this tag
The forum debate tag on WindowsForum.com captures discussions where members challenge or question common assumptions about Microsoft products. A recurring theme is the naming and versioning of Windows releases, such as whether Windows 7 truly represents a seventh version or is a marketing label for an incremental update based on Windows Vista 6.1. These debates often involve technical details like command prompt version numbers and feature comparisons, reflecting a community that critically examines official claims. The tag covers threads where users express skepticism about Microsoft's transparency and engage in evidence-based arguments about software evolution, stability, and naming conventions.

Windows 7 Windows 7 is it really the 7th version?
Is windows 7 really version 7.0? If one opens a command prompt window one sees that it says it is windows version 6.1. Last time i checked 6.1 is not version 7.... So it would seem that MS is only using the name "7" like how they used the name "XP" or "Vista". I think this is to decieve people...- dzuchowski
