About this tag
The GA-7N400L is a Gigabyte motherboard based on the nForce2 Ultra 400 chipset, supporting Socket A AMD Athlon XP processors and DDR memory. In the WindowsForum.com community, this board is discussed primarily in the context of compatibility issues with modern Windows versions. One notable thread details a user's struggle to install Windows 7 RC1 on a GA-7N400L system, encountering a 0x7E blue screen error shortly after boot. The user attempted multiple troubleshooting steps, including hardware removal, fresh partitions, and a new hard drive, but the problem persisted. The discussion suggests that the motherboard's BIOS, last updated in 2004, may be the root cause of the installation failure, highlighting the challenges of running newer operating systems on legacy hardware.
I downloaded Windows 7 RC1 and for the life of me I can't get it to install. I've tried redownloading and reburning multiple times and each copy blue screens just after the splash screen with the 4 "balls of light" windows icon. The stop code is 0x7E.
I have tried everything I can shake a stick...
