About this tag
The 'handle is invalid' error in Windows typically occurs when trying to access files or folders, often on network drives or after system changes. In WindowsForum discussions, users report this error when opening folders containing media files on a network drive, persisting from Windows 7 to Windows 10, while other operating systems access the same files without issue. Another common scenario involves .doc files after reinstalling Windows 7 and switching from Microsoft Office XP to LibreOffice, where the error appears only when opening .doc files directly but not when dragging them into LibreOffice. These cases suggest the error may relate to file association, permissions, or network path issues rather than file corruption.
