hardware reserved
About this tag
The 'hardware reserved' tag on WindowsForum.com covers discussions where a significant portion of installed RAM is marked as hardware reserved in Windows Task Manager or Resource Monitor, reducing usable memory. Common scenarios include systems with 8 GB installed but only 4 GB usable, or 6 GB with 2 GB usable, with the remainder labeled as hardware reserved. Users report this issue across Windows 7, 8, and 10, often after upgrades or clean installs. Troubleshooting steps mentioned include testing RAM sticks and slots, checking BIOS settings, and ensuring the correct Windows version (64-bit) is installed. The tag focuses on diagnosing and resolving this memory allocation problem.
I've read a million posts on this, none of which have aided me on the slightest.
As seen here, my memory and disk usage are insanely high, with no discernible reason as to why. This is the case essentially all the time, and it's perplexing to say the least.

My computer has constantly been a pain and has not once been completely usable. There is always some sort of flaw.
I deleted everything and installed Windows 8 last week because it seemed as though only 2gb of my 6gb of ram was being used...

I just did a reformat of my machine with new hardware. I upgraded the memory to 8gb. Im using 64bit windows ultimate and for some reason 4 of the 8gb are showing up in system resources as 'hardware reserved'. Any ideas why?
