inbound rules
About this tag
Inbound rules in Windows Firewall control which incoming network traffic is allowed or blocked. Common tasks include opening ports for services like SSH (port 22) or FTP, and troubleshooting rules that don't apply correctly. Users often create inbound rules via the Windows Defender Firewall with Advanced Security console (wf.msc) or PowerShell's New-NetFirewallRule cmdlet. Issues arise when rules fail to save, when unexpected allow rules appear after switching firewalls, or when legitimate programs are blocked despite having inbound and outbound rules. Resetting the firewall to its default rule set can resolve conflicts. Properly configuring inbound rules is essential for both security and functionality, especially when hosting servers or enabling network discovery and file sharing.
If you manage servers, opening a port in the Windows Server firewall is one of those routine tasks that’s trivial to execute but easy to get wrong — and a single misconfiguration can expose services to the public internet. This feature explains the exact, supported ways to open ports in Windows...

Is there a file path to find any open ports within Windows 10 machine?

After having used for some years another firewall I considered now to switch to MS built in Windows Firewall (in Win 7 Pro).
So I deinstalled the old FW and enabled the MS WF.
When I go now to wf.msc e.g into "Inbound rules" section then there are much to my surprise many "Allow" rules for...

Hi folks this is an annoying puzzle for me. I have 64bit windows home premium and the firewall blocks local network discovery and options to enable file sharing and media streaming. I am using a home network, when i go to allow a program through there is no option for file and printer service...
Why might Windows Firewall *insist* that a program has been determined to not have authorisation to access it's online components? I've got inbound and outbound rules, the program is in the list of exceptions...it makes no sense. I've searched high and low, and not found anything helpful in any...
Hey, I am going to tell you what I have done so you don't already repeat it.
I am trying to add a port 43594 to host a private server online.
First off, why not just add an "add port" button?
Would make this all easier.
Ok heres what I did:
I went to windows firewall (as admin)
I clicked...
Prior to upgrading to Windows 7 I would connect to my machine at home remotely. I have an edge device that I use forward port 3389 to a specific IP address on my LAN. I would simply use the Internet IP address from a remote location and the router would forward the port appropriately. Everything...
