initialization failed

About this tag
The tag 'initialization failed' on WindowsForum.com covers errors where a system component, driver, or disk fails to initialize properly. Common examples include the PROCESS1_INITIALIZATION_FAILED bug check (0x6B) on Windows 7, which can cause BSODs at boot, and the Microsoft Pluton Cryptographic Provider failing to load, leading to system freezes. Disk initialization failures also appear, where a drive shows as unallocated in Disk Management and cannot be accessed. Troubleshooting steps discussed include deleting or replacing bootcat.cache, running chkdsk and SFC, and attempting file recovery from uninitialized drives. The tag focuses on resolving these initialization failures through recovery console commands, driver updates, or hardware checks.

  4. Windows 7 Windows 7 RC1 BSODs immediately after boot, error 0x6B

I just had my Windows 7 machine fail to start. It BSODs with "PROCESS1_INITIALIZATION_FAILED 0x0000006B (0x0, 0x0, 0x0, 0x0)" but is able to start when I invoke Safe Mode. Startup Repair and System Restore both failed to resolve the issue, and the installation did work before that.
