legacy office files

The legacy office files tag on WindowsForum.com covers the practical challenge of opening old documents on modern Windows systems. A recent discussion focuses on PowerPoint 95 presentations and similar files from the 1990s, noting that Microsoft 365 and current Windows setups often reject or restrict these early binary formats through compatibility changes and security warnings. The thread highlights LibreOffice as a free, open-source option for reading files recovered from floppy disks, Zip drives, and old backups. It is useful for anyone doing digital archaeology on archived reports and presentations who needs a safe way to view them without relying on retired Microsoft compatibility support.
