About this tag
The local DNS tag on WindowsForum.com covers discussions about DNS resolution within a local area network (LAN), particularly in workgroup environments without Active Directory. Common issues include network slowdowns caused by computers failing to resolve each other's hostnames, often due to DHCP servers assigning external DNS servers instead of internal ones. Users share troubleshooting steps such as using nbtstat commands to check NetBIOS name resolution and configuring DNS settings to improve local name resolution. The tag is relevant for home and small office networks running Windows Home editions alongside Windows Server, where proper local DNS configuration is critical for network performance.
