lost clusters
About this tag
Lost clusters are a type of disk volume error that can occur on Windows PCs, often detected by tools like chkdsk or Windows System Maintenance. They represent areas on the hard drive where file system data is corrupted or orphaned, potentially leading to system hangs, slow performance, or inaccurate volume reporting. In forum discussions, users report encountering lost clusters alongside nvstor64 errors and system freezing, with chkdsk repairs and sfc /scannow used to address them. Windows System Maintenance may prompt a reboot to repair lost clusters, bad sectors, cross-linked files, and directory errors, freeing up disk space and restoring accurate volume information. Troubleshooting lost clusters typically involves running chkdsk or following system maintenance prompts to correct the underlying file system issues.
Bottom line up front - my PC is having repeated nvstor64 type 3 errors which cause it to hang and the only way to restart it is to hold the power button in until it shuts down. Help!
Sorry if this is the wrong forum - I'm not sure where to post this since I really don't know what the problem...
