mechanical issues
About this tag
This tag covers discussions about mechanical issues with hardware components, such as DVD drives, on Windows systems. A common problem involves optical drives disappearing or becoming intermittent after upgrading to Windows 7, often accompanied by permission errors when trying to access the drive. Users have attempted registry fixes like altering upper filters and disabling power management via command prompt, but these solutions do not always resolve the issue. The tag focuses on troubleshooting physical drive malfunctions that persist despite software-level adjustments, highlighting the need for alternative approaches or hardware checks.
I have an Acer and since upgrading to Windows 7, the DVD drive is only there intermittently.
If I start the computer and go to 'Computer', the drive will be there. I double click and it will say 'Please insert a disc'.....no problem.
If I start the computer and put a disc straight in, nothing...
