media check loop
About this tag
The media check loop tag covers discussions where a Windows PC repeatedly displays a 'checking media' message during startup, often cycling through boot device selection without successfully loading the operating system. Common causes include corrupted or missing Windows boot files, damaged hard drives, or incorrect BIOS/UEFI boot order. Users typically seek help when the system gets stuck in this loop after a failed update, accidental file deletion, or drive failure. Troubleshooting steps mentioned include checking boot device priority, repairing the Master Boot Record, or reinstalling Windows. The tag is relevant for Windows users experiencing boot failures on laptops or desktops.
