About this tag
MediaPortal is a free, open-source media center application that serves as an alternative to Windows Media Center. Based on user experiences, it offers greater flexibility for TV card configuration, allowing multiple cards to be used simultaneously without reconfiguration. It supports various TV card types including terrestrial, analog, and HD, and provides composite video and audio input without requiring a specific remote. Setup involves installing a database like MySQL or SQL Server 2005 Express, which are free. While the documentation can be challenging, once configured, MediaPortal works reliably on Windows 7 x64 and also supports Linux. It includes a TV server component for managing live TV and recordings.
