About this tag
On WindowsForum.com, the tag 'minor version' appears in discussions about Windows build numbers and versioning schemes. Users reference the minor version component of the major.minor.build.revision format, as seen in Windows 10 Insider builds (e.g., version 10.0.15141) and Windows 10 Technical Preview (major 6, minor 2, build 9200). The tag also surfaces in debates about Microsoft's naming conventions, such as Windows 7 being internally version 6.1. These threads explore how minor versions relate to major releases, build numbers, and the underlying codebase, often questioning the transparency of Microsoft's versioning strategy.

Windows 7 Windows 7 is it really the 7th version?
Is windows 7 really version 7.0? If one opens a command prompt window one sees that it says it is windows version 6.1. Last time i checked 6.1 is not version 7.... So it would seem that MS is only using the name "7" like how they used the name "XP" or "Vista". I think this is to decieve people...- dzuchowski
