moca
About this tag
MoCA (Multimedia over Coax Alliance) is a networking technology that uses existing coaxial cable wiring in a home to create a wired network backbone. On WindowsForum, users discuss MoCA as an alternative to mesh Wi-Fi systems, particularly in older homes where coaxial cables are already installed. The technology is evaluated for its cost-effectiveness and reliability compared to other networking solutions like mesh routers, which may rely on Bluetooth for inter-node communication. MoCA is often considered for improving network coverage and speed without the need for new cable drops, though installation costs can be a factor. Discussions also touch on practical challenges such as retrofitting coaxial wiring in existing walls.
I'm working on networking our new-old (1995 vintage) house. It has already had some cable drops installed and all in the "wrong" places (well, duh).
I looked at MoCA (2 different coax cable sets already in the walls) - $180.00/cable run? - I don't think so.
Then I looked at MESH - interesting...
