I would like to know how to disable the automatic expansion of folders when my mouse hovers over them in the navigation pane. I've searched all over the folder options and have searched online, but no one has an answer.

Whenever I mouseover a program, the preview window doesnt show up and the program remains highlighted. I just reinstalled my OS (12 days ago)

Ulimately, I just want folder size to be displayed when viewing in details mode but it seems that isn't an option with windows 7 so the next best thing is when you hover the mouse curser over the file and the metadata pops up (I think it's called tooltips) with the file size in it - but this is...
in explorer when you mouseover a folder or folder, there is this irritant tooltip-like info about the file or folder. I never use this and it makes the userexperience rather circus-like.

Is there a way to hide the taskbar so it will not pop up when you mouse over it without actually disabling the start menu? (accessing the start menu via the keyboard windows key rather than clicking.)
I have found a few things via google about hacking the registry to disable the start menu...
