About this tag
The netdom command-line tool is used in Windows Server environments for Active Directory domain management and troubleshooting. Discussions on WindowsForum.com cover using netdom query fsmo to identify Flexible Single Master Operations (FSMO) role holders, such as schema master, domain naming master, PDC, RID pool manager, and infrastructure master. Users report issues like RPC server unavailable errors when domain controllers are disconnected, and seek best practices for checking FSMO roles during server migrations or upgrades. The tool is essential for IT professionals managing Windows Server infrastructures, particularly when verifying role ownership after promoting new domain controllers or decommissioning old ones.
