About this tag
Non-plug and play drivers appear in Windows Device Manager under a separate tree from standard plug-and-play devices. These drivers are typically legacy or kernel-mode drivers that do not support automatic detection and configuration. Common issues include drivers showing a Code 24 error, indicating the device is not present, not working properly, or missing drivers. Troubleshooting steps often involve checking driver properties, attempting to start the driver, or reinstalling the correct driver. These problems have been reported on Windows 7 and Vista, and resolving them may require manual driver updates or system file checks.
