non-unicode

About this tag
The non-unicode tag on WindowsForum.com covers issues related to the system locale setting for non-Unicode programs in Windows. Common problems include errors when changing the language for non-Unicode programs, such as BSODs or startup failures after switching to Japanese or Chinese. Users also report that Chinese characters appear as gibberish in applications like QuickBooks, even when the system locale is set correctly. Another recurring issue is the inability to set different non-Unicode languages per user account, causing conflicts when multiple users need different language support. These threads focus on Windows 7, Vista, and Server 2008 R2, with troubleshooting steps like clean boots and safe mode recovery.
