paragraph mark

When I open any new Word document I always get a paragraph symbol where the first line would start. Under the paragraph section the paragraph symbol is highlighted, but it will not turn off. Also the symbol can not be deleted. Under the style Normal it has a paragraph symbol before the Normal...
