About this tag
The pre-login screen is the display that appears before a user logs into Windows, often showing a lock screen or login prompt. In a reported issue on Windows 8 Pro, a system fails to wake from sleep and freezes at the pre-login screen, displaying a greenish background with a tower icon. The user suspects a display driver problem and updates their Radeon HD 6480G driver without success. They also question why the system can boot normally but cannot resume from sleep, possibly related to the SAM file or BIOS settings. This tag covers troubleshooting scenarios where the pre-login screen becomes unresponsive during wake from sleep, often involving driver or firmware issues.

Windows 8 System cannot wake up from sleep; reboots.
Hi there. Trying to figure out a problem. Running Win 8 Pro, 64bit. I recently installed an upgrade of my BIOS. At first it took several tries to boot into Windows. That is now solved. What remains is the fact that when I wakeup the system from sleep, it only displays the pre-login screen...- gallicbear
