In a batch file I have a line such as:
if "%1" == "some_value" goto somegoto
in order to test a parameter against a value. If however I need to pass as the first parameter to my batch file a string with some equal signs in it such as:
"cxxflags=-std=c++11"
I pass it with quotes so it is a...
So I would really, dearly, sincerely like to know if there isn't an easier, more intuitive way to access special characters than the ludicrously arcane alt+0xxx combinations Microsoft invites you to accept (did they have robot users in mind when they decided that was a good design decision?)...

I have a really annoying problem, ever since win 7 beta I have been so angry that the single / double quote key was not working the usual way.
The problem is when I press the single quot button nothing happens, when I press it again bout quotes appear, same thing with double quotes...
