About this tag
The rescan tag on WindowsForum.com covers issues where Windows repeatedly rescans hard drives or storage devices, often causing performance problems or preventing drive letter assignment. Users report Windows 10 rescans HDDs when navigating in File Explorer, and Windows 7 fails to assign drive letters to external drives despite rescans. The tag also includes missing CD/DVD driver scenarios where the Rescan option appears during installation. These threads focus on storage device detection and driver-related rescans in Windows 7 and 10.
