About this tag
Roots Magic is a genealogy software program that some Windows 10 users have reported being blocked by Windows Defender. In a forum thread, a user described being unable to enter data or close the program without using Task Manager unless Defender was disabled. The same issue occurred with another family history program, suggesting a broader compatibility problem with Defender's real-time protection. Users seeking to continue using Roots Magic may need to adjust Windows Defender settings, such as adding exclusions for the program, to prevent interference while maintaining security.

Windows 10 Windows Defender blocking programs
I use a long established family history recording program but can no longer enter data or shut down without using Task Manager, unless I disable Defender. To see if the problem was my program I installed the free Roots Magic program and tried to enter data, but again I could not until I disabled...- mike21
