self-build
About this tag
The self-build tag on WindowsForum.com covers discussions about computers that users have assembled themselves from individual components. Common topics include driver installation for older self-built systems, troubleshooting BSOD errors after hardware changes or memory replacement, and seeking advice on component selection for gaming builds. Users also share experiences with stability issues, such as crashes during sleep or while gaming, and seek help diagnosing hardware or software conflicts. The tag reflects the hands-on nature of building and maintaining a custom PC, with a focus on practical problem-solving and community support.
Hello everyone.
I have an older self-build computer which is several years old. It has an ASUS P5Q Pro mobo and an old Intel Q9400 processor. I originally had WinXP Pro installed on this computer. I went out and bought an OEM copy of W7 Pro and installed it. So I had installed an OEM version...
Does anybody know if there are any websites or guides that explain how to actually build your own computer?
I do not mean buying cpu, gpu, etc to put together a pc but really make your own computer?
Couldn't find anything useful on the web so far but I hope perhaps you do.

Wonder if you can help me: I have a nice little self-build, courtesy of a couple of my gaming friends, that's been running happily and working like a charm since early Februaryish kind of time. In fact, I couldn't fault it at all, until I had to move my computer between homes. Once...
I started getting BSODs while playing MW3 yesterday and I'm stumped. I formatted yesterday and the problem persists so I think it's hardware related, although I hope not.

I've had Win 7 Pro on my current machine (self-build) for 5 or 6 months now with no prior problems until this past fortnight when I've now run into repeated full shutdowns unexpectedly with no warning/error msgs prior to or on rebooting. Given how most other shutdown issues related to Win 7 do...
