shell integration
About this tag
Shell integration on Windows refers to the deep embedding of features directly into the operating system's user interface, such as File Explorer's context menu, taskbar, or desktop. Discussions on WindowsForum.com cover a range of shell integration topics, including Microsoft's experimental AI actions in File Explorer that add one-click image edits, document summaries, and Bing Visual Search to the right-click menu. Other threads explore cross-device handoff features that surface playback controls on the taskbar, customizing the right-click menu to add sticky notes or restore missing New menu entries, and third-party shell extensions like Foobar2000 plugins for Windows 7. These examples show how shell integration can streamline workflows by bringing functionality directly into the Windows shell.
