shrink drive
About this tag
The shrink drive tag covers discussions about reducing the size of a Windows partition to free up unallocated space, often for dual-boot setups or creating new volumes. Topics include using Windows Disk Management to shrink a volume, calculating safe shrink amounts, and avoiding data loss. Common scenarios involve shrinking a Windows 10 or Windows 11 partition to install another OS like Windows 7 or Linux, or to create a separate data partition. Users share tips on checking for unmovable files, defragmenting before shrinking, and using third-party tools when the built-in shrink option offers insufficient space. The tag is relevant for anyone planning to repartition their drive without reinstalling Windows.
I have a 600 GB hard drive and run Win 10 -clean install.
I would like to use the Windows 7 the pc came with.
Can I shrink the drive by 100GB and install Windows 7 on the new partition I would create without hurting Windows 10?
I have never done this before so could use a few tips.
