About this tag
The SLAPL E8400 is an Intel Core 2 Duo processor originally designed for laptops. Users often ask whether this mobile CPU can be installed in a desktop LGA775 motherboard. The SLAPL E8400 uses a different socket and power requirements than desktop LGA775 processors, so it is not compatible without significant modification. Attempting to install it may damage the processor or motherboard. For a desktop LGA775 system, a standard desktop Core 2 Duo like the E8400 (non-SLAPL) is required. This tag covers compatibility questions and hardware limitations when mixing mobile and desktop LGA775 components.
