About this tag
The smb performance tag collects WindowsForum.com discussion of slow or inconsistent Server Message Block file transfers, especially between Windows 11 PCs and NAS devices. Coverage focuses on diagnosing why large folder copies stall in File Explorer, why internet speed tests mislead when the bottleneck is local, and how tools such as Robocopy help isolate throughput problems. Network hardware also features, including 2.5GbE links and the switches, cabling, and adapters that can cap real-world speeds. The emphasis is practical troubleshooting: separating SMB, storage, and Ethernet limits so users can find the actual cause of sluggish network shares rather than blaming their ISP.
