About this tag
The snap to grid feature in Windows automatically aligns desktop icons to an invisible grid, preventing freeform placement. Users often want to disable this to arrange icons exactly as they wish, such as moving them closer to screen edges or grouping them tightly. The tag covers discussions about turning off snap to grid and the related auto arrange setting on the Windows desktop. Common questions include how to locate the option, as it may not be labeled directly in some Windows versions, and how to regain full control over icon positioning. This tag is relevant for Windows users seeking to customize their desktop layout beyond the default grid constraints.

Windows 7 Can I turn off snap-to-grid for icons on desktop?
I would like to slide my icons closer to the edge and bunch them up more. I don't see a "snap-to-grid" attribute anywhere, but that's what I think is happening. Can I change it? TIA LAS- las14
